January meeting
Thursday Jan 3, 2008
6:00-8:00pm
Museum of Printing History
Please RSVP to me: mlight@printingmuseum.org if you plan to attend. This
headcount is extremely helpful for the presenter preparing the materials.
Program:
Envelopes, Invitations and Cards Workshop with Joan Son
$12.00
Take time for a real hand written note in a hand folded envelope.
We will make three envelopes and two note cards.
All materials and diagrams will be provided.
Joan Son
Joan Son has worked in the medium of paper for over 30 years.
She began her graphic work designing and producing catalogs for Foley's
department stores in the 1970's. In 1993 she debuted her origami art in
the windows of Tiffany & Company in the Houston Galleria. Her gift
pieces have been carried by the National Gallery of Art and the
Smithsonian in Washington D.C. as well as the Houston Museum of Natural
Science and Crow Museum of Asian Art in Dallas. She was included in an
article about artists working in the medium of origami in the New York
Times, December 2004. This past summer she worked on a project for
Neiman Marcus catalog to create large folded animals (from 9'square
paper) to be background props for photography.
A quote from Joan:
"This is my experience with a medium and an art that I love. That I find
magic in the manipulation of paper...that others might get a glimpse of
the source through my eyes...this is my wish, my pleasure and my plan."
Company
I look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday.
Happy New Year!
