Amanda Focke is Asst. Head of Special Collections at Rice University's Fondren Library. Her main focus is providing access, both physical and digital, to the library's rare books and manuscripts. She enjoys making blank books and boxes of various shapes and sizes, and has recently taken an interest in building large paper flowers.

Amanda has prepared a power point presentation of book clasps, historic and modern, from the collection of the Fondren Library, Rice University. Following, there will be a brief hands on lesson for several book closure techniques. We will also have examples to show of clasps, ties and closures for inspiration and application to your works. If you have any examples in your collection to share, please bring and place them on the show table for our group to see.
